Today I spent the day in Kamakura with some friends I met at the Keio welcome party (for 留学生ーforeign exchange students). It was beautiful and not too far away, just a 40 minute train ride–I want to retire there! : )
the main shopping area outside of the station
靴をぬがなくてはいけない！and behind you can see where they make the handmade soba noodles we ate for lunch.
the beautiful and quiet neighborhoods i will retire in ;)
a lot of parents ride bikes with their kids like this. so cute.
he looked up for my picture
だいぶつ！！ giant buddha!!
pretty adorable huh?
20yen (cents) to go inside the buddha!
his belly was warm
they have this around a lot of traditional, touristy areas
lots of little shrines like this around kamakura.
a guide on how to pray at shinto shrines - ring the bell, bow twice, clap twice, bow once!
the entrance to another temple--i used the "fireworks" setting on my camera so these next few pictures look rather ghostly
at the temples you can pay for these boards and write your wishes on them--such as health for your family or good grades on an exam
from today! says something like"that from now on the two of us will be very happy together."
