小金井 Koganei (film)

Roll of film #2, part 1. I went to Koganei for hanami* a few days ago with Ryoko and MK. It was a bit far away, and we had to walk over 30 minutes from the station to get to the park, but it was gorgeous. The sakura* were so abundant it was like they formed a canopy over the park…

On the way to the park. It was a very quite area.

A little shrine along the way. I really like these willow tree-esque sakura.

Tulips at the park entrance.

Flowers at the park entrance. The colors sure came out interestingly on this one.

Mmm..the whole street was lined with Japanese festival food stands - takoyaki, yakisoba, grilled corn, steamed potatoes, grilled squid, etc. We all had yakisoba and then grilled corn.

Sakura flavored cakes I bought for us at Shinjuku station. These were incredibly delicious - I need to pass through that station more often.

*Alright, lets review those italicized words, shall we? Hanami is the Japanese tradition of cherry blossom viewing  – lay down a picnic mat and enjoy a day under the trees! Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossoms and the trees themselves.

Looks fun huh? I highly recommend that you visit Japan in the Spring, if you ever travel here – the weather is perfect (now in the low 70s everyday!), there are sakura everywhere, and its always sunny!

  1. The close-up of the pink and white cherry blossoms is brilliant. Love the contrast with the dark branches…I’m feeling spring fever!!!
    Peace…

  2. ooohhhhh maaaannnn, I want to eat takoyaki! Can you please take more pictures of food? Please please please please

  3. Film totally kills digital for high-contrast, bright stuff like sakura. If you really want to grab every last piece of the highlights, shoot on negative film.

  4. David – shoot on negative film? what do you mean?

Jacob – I suppose I don’t take food pictures very often do I? … I’ll work on that!
