Yuko and I ate lunch here the other day when we were in Daikanyama. It was delicious and light (maybe a little too light!). We got to sit on the porch outside and enjoy the sun.
The cafe was clean and airy. I think the focus of the menu was its selection of green teas and matcha-based beverages, along with green tea and red azuki bean based desserts. There were several varieties of parfaits and roll cakes that looked incredible but were a little to expensive for us. $8-10 for lunch is ok with me but the same amount for a little piece of cake? I’ll have to pass.
Although this is nothing compared to another cafe we stopped in to look at… a Tomato cafe down the street was selling tomato-based meals and desserts, and even individual tomatoes as if they were truffles or something. There were individual green tomatoes for sale for about $6! I’m sure they are great tomatoes but I’m not sure I’ll ever be that much of a foodie.. I’d rather try growing my own!
Back to Suruga: I’d like to come back here again and splurge on one of those matcha parfaits when it starts getting really hot – I’ll just be sure to eat some 100yen onigiri (riceballs) beforehand so I don’t leave with a 2000yen ($20) dent in my wallet!

Here’s a dessert we had later that day form Ootoya (a cheap restaurant with really good Japanese food! I’ll post on that soon), – it only cost a couple dollars…hahaha

Hi!
I just wanted to say, as a fellow fan of japan, that I really enjoy your blog posts about every day life. It keeps me going knowing that one day I’ll be where you are.
Keep it up and many thanks!
=D

the food was so good : )
That dessert looks nice! So the there is a difference in term of taste between Mayo in the US and Japanese Mayo?
mmm i think your dish looks nice..well the other one does too and i can imagine that yours would have been even better with avocado….this post is really making me hungry
Yum! I love your food posts:). That dessert looks so great for just 200 calories.
kaefka – thanks for looking, I really appreciate it! I hope you get here someday too!
Pei – Yes! If you can find Japanese “Kewpie ” mayonnaise anywhere try it! I’ve hated normal mayo since I was a kid, but the Japanese kind is pretty good.
