We took a very short tour to the NE coast, just outside of Taipei city and it was stunning.
Dangerous Cliff! Keep away!
Those beautifully detailed little structures are not houses or shrines, but tombs! Most of them belong to miners who died during the gold rush here.
Oh this is Yuko sleeping during the drive to the coast..hehe
The guide said people think this rock looks like a bamboo pole
Me and the bamboo. If you look closely it looks like the top piece of that rock could just slide off.
I believe the guide said these were iron deposits (the area is so rich with iron it flows into the rivers and turns them yellow)
Allison: “They look a little bit like a certain body part don’t they…like on the stomach of girl dog right?”
Haha, then we went to an old mining town up in the mountains. He said many parents in the city send their children to school up here because its so secluded they have nothing to do but study.
Steaming mochi-like sweets at a shop in the village marketplace
The rain broke suddenly and it made all the colors look even more vivid. We got pretty soaked, but I always find those times when you get stuck in pouring rain with no way to cover yourself to be kind of fun.
While these don't look appetizing to me at all this picture is one of my favorites from the trip.
The long stairway down and out of the market.
It hadn’t rained in Taipei city while we were gone, so we looked a bit odd coming back into the city all wet. : )
